So we all know Geohot, the creator of the CFW (custom firmware) you probably have on your PS3 right now and the man who released the root key which is used as a signature to check if the code being ran is Sony's official software.
If you haven't heard, educate yourself about the root key for the PS3 here & about his CFW .
Around a week after GeoHot released his CFW and the PS3's root key, Sony has taken action and filed a lawsuit against him and the team known as FailOverFl0w, a team dedicated to the PS3 that develop hacks for the PS3.
Sony, unlike Microsoft is the only one taking action against those who allow and create methods for pirating while Microsoft simply bans the console they believe is modified to allow piracy.
Charges:
The angle that sony is taking seems to be that they are trying to censor and remove all leaks related to the PS3 instead of simply disabling the consoles like other companies.
Due to the PS3 console being an expensive to produce system and very little profit is made from the system itself, whilest majority of their income is from game sales, it makes sense why they are pressing the specific charges posted above.
Since in this age that we live in is the age of information, taking down and removing such information that was on GeoHot's site is near futile, mirrors of his original site has sprung up here & here .
It is hosted on a university's server and was uploaded by a man by the name of David S. Touretzky.
David is a known fighter, he was involved in the DeCSS in which a teenager was sued for creating a program allowing people use DVDs on a Linux system, back in 1999 which was a big deal then.
David also has fought and won in other law suits and even has a site about what to do if you are wrongfully accused of a copyright violation.
The man has the balls, experience and has shown in the passed that he has the knowledge to fight big cases.
I think it's time to sit back and watch as things get interesting.
